Installing a Lagun Table Leg in a Bristol 26 Sailboat Dinette
One of the best (and also easiest) upgrades to our Bristol 26 was the addition of a Lagun Table Leg. It isn’t cheap, but it allows the table to swivel around and easily move out of the way when it isn’t needed.
The original table support was screwed to the cabin sole. Since the sole is a little sagged and unsupported, every time you walked by the table, you’d cause it to wiggle and sometimes the table would clear whatever was on it onto the floor.
The original table leg attached to the wobbly cabin sole.
I attached the Lagun mount to the side of the center storage locker, making a spacer out of oak to allow the table leg to clear the wood support that allows the table to act as a bed support.
The table leg fits nicely under the table, allowing it to still function as a bed support when needed.
The new Lagun table mount attaches to the much sturdier section of the dinette. You can see the spot where the old mount attached to the floor.
The new table mount allows the table to be pushed out of the way when it's not in use, making more room in a small boat. Here it is pushed up against the side of the hull and out of the way.
On a 26 foot sailboat, space is limited, so this table mount allows flexibility, swinging out of the way when not needed–and it preserves all the benefits of the original table. You can also buy another mount bracket to move the table into the cockpit if needed–I haven’t done that, but it’s nice to have the option.
This table mount, or a similar style mount, would probably work on other small sailboats where the original dinette table is mounted to a soft cabin sole or is often in the way or blocks access in the cabin.
